Acupuncture is wonderful treatment for acute and chronic low back pain. American Family Physician has recently published an article sighting acupuncture as the number 1 treatment for chronic low back pain. It recommends acupuncture for short term relief and to improve function.
In my experience Classical acupuncture, which is the style of acupuncture I practice, is wonderful for treating low back pain. Classical acupuncture is so effective for low back pain, I am surprised when my patients return for more than 3 treatments. Classical acupuncture works with both the acute and chronic symptoms a patient presents with. The results are amazing.
